BioHowdy Pardner! My name is Ayla and I'm a 17-year-old Canadian Christian cowgirl with a passion for God and horses. And of course dogs.
My bedroom portrays my love for horses. Horses prance across the walls, looking so real that it seems as though they could gallop out of the posters. Two sorrel foals stare curiously out of the blanket while sorrel and white horses toss their manes on the pillowcase. Numerous horse models and a horse clock pose on the dresser. A saddle is perched in the closet along with a halter and running martingale. The bookshelf and several boxes are overflowing with horse books and magazines. Several things show my love for another animal — the dog. A large pale green dog bed lays on the floor, covered in long hair that my Border Collie has shed. A rope toy, several Nylabones, a tattered brown and white stuffed dog (minus one ear and some stuffing), along with other stuffed toys are scattered across the floor. A half-full bag of Purina dog food slouches against the wall. A green water dish full of water sits beside an off-white food dish half-full of food. To top it of, a 2 year old Border Collie named “Banjo” is flopped across the (wrong) bed. Sound cowgirl-ish? You bet!
I live in Northern Canada with my parents, 3 brothers (Calvin-20, Verne-20, Jeremy-15), and 1 sister (Alisha-13) and our pets. Our menagerie consists of: 5 horses, 1 dog, 1 cat, 1 goose, 2 doves, and 2 pigeons. The horses are: Cloud (25+ year old, 15hh, grey Arabian gelding), Bess (19 year old, 15.2hh, black, Percheron/Quarter Horse X mare), Twilight (3 year old, 16+hh, black/white overo, Paint/Percheron/Quarter Horse X filly), and Lunar (9 year old, 14.1hh, dark bay, reg’d Morgan gelding). Cloud is a horse that Verne rescued in 2004, he goes Western, English, and bareback (although bareback is his favorite. He loves to run although he can’t run a lot due to respiratory problems. He’s highly spirited and although he’s incredibly sweet, he will let loose with the occasional buck, just to let you know you’re at his mercy. I bought Bess in August 2004 (although she didn’t arrive until a month later), and then sold her to Calvin. She goes Western and bareback and can be very head-strong although she’s almost completely bombproof. She was in-foal to a 16.3hh Paint stallion when I bought her and she foaled on May 22nd, 2005. Twilight, the product of that breeding, is Calvin’s ‘baby’. She was imprinted at birth so she follows us all over, no need for a halter! Although she is very sweet, she’s also very spirited and can be high-strung. She loves jumping and will jump anything that looks jumpable. I can’t wait til she’s trained, she’ll be an awesome jumper. Lunar is my gelding, his reg’d name is El Isla Lunar Eclipse. He goes Western, English, and bareback and his favorite speed is a full-out gallop. He can be very ‘spooky’ and spirited although he’s getting slightly calmer. Cactus is my youngest brother's 23-year-old, 12 hand high Pony of the Americas gelding who arrived on October 21st. He has arthritis but he's still rideable and is very cute, sweet, and LAZY! The dog is my 2 year old, tri-color male Border Collie named Banjo. He’s incredibly smart and sweet…..I can’t say enough about him! He’s the BEST! The cat is Alisha’s 1 year old, semi-long-haired calico kitten named Mischief. Her name says it all!
